KENNESAW, Ga.- The Kennesaw State softball team closed out the regular season falling to Liberty 3-1 at Bailey Park on Sunday afternoon.
Nine Owls were honored prior to first pitch for Senior Day.
How It Happened
Lindsey Kyte pitched a season-high six strikeouts through the first five frames. The Owls defense was able to hold strong and keep the game scoreless leaving five Flames stranded over five innings.
A two-run single from Blake Gibson would open the scoring up in the top of the sixth inning to give Liberty a 2-0 lead.
The Flames extended their lead in the top of the seventh inning after a solo shot over the left field fence from Amber Bishop.
The Owls would get three runners on in the bottom of the seventh inning after
Taylor Cates walked and back-to-back singles from
Andrea Summey and
Marcela Lopez. An RBI single from
Faith Alexander would cut the Flames lead 3-1 but the Owls late rally would not be enough.
Lindsey Kyte (4-5) suffered the loss after 5.0 innings, giving up one run on three hits while striking out six.
McKenzie Wagoner (5-2) secured the win after tossing 5.0 innings, allowing no runs on four hits while striking out four. Karlie Keeney picked up the save after 0.2 innings.
