KENNESAW, Ga- The Kennesaw State softball team walked it off in a sixth inning run rule victory over FGCU to sweep day one of its crossover weekend.
Game 1: Kennesaw State 7, Bellarmine 1
After a scoreless inning, KSU took a 3-0 lead thanks to a sacrifice fly from
Faith Alexander, a Knights throwing error and an RBI single from
Brea Dickey to score
Marcela Lopez.
Bellarmine responded with a sacrifice fly to cut into the Owls lead 3-1.
KSU added insurance in the bottom of the fifth inning with an RBI single from
Raleigh Williams to score
Andrea Summey.
A three-run home run over the right field fence from Dickey would seal the deal in a 7-1 decision over the Knights.
Peyton Elzey (1-6) collected the win after stepping in for relief of
Lindsey Kyte, who finished with three strikeouts, in the top of the fourth inning, giving up no runs on one hit.
Carson Goatley (3-7) suffered the loss after 6.0 innings of work, giving up seven runs on eight hits while striking out one.
Game 2: Kennesaw State 8, FGCU 0
With no action after three innings, the Owls' bats heated up off a two-run single to right field from
Brinaya Bailey and a bases-clearing double from
Christen Florence to take a 5-0 lead.
FGCU looked to respond in the top of the fifth and sixth inning, but the Owls' defense was able to close the door and leave two Eagles stranded.
The Owls extended their lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a two-run single from
Cheyanne Sales before a walk-off single from
Pacy Villa would end the game in a run-rule victory.
Melanie Bennett (12-9) secured the win tossing a complete game, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out five.
Sarah Lawton (6-4) suffered the loss after 4.0 innings of work, giving up five runs on six hits.

The Owls continue crossover weekend play on Sunday (Apr. 11) with a doubleheader against Stetson at 1:30 p.m. and Lipscomb at 4 p.m.
