KENNESAW, Ga.- The Kennesaw State softball team split the final day of crossover weekend at Bailey Park on Sunday afternoon. The Owls fell to Stetson 7-6 in game one and defeated Lipscomb 11-0 in game two.
Game 1 | Stetson 7, Kennesaw State 6
The Hatters started quick scoring with three runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 3-0 lead over the Owls.
KSU responded in the top of the second inning with a three-run home run to right center field from
Katie Greep to tie the game 3-3.
The Owls added insurance in the top of the third and sixth inning thanks to an RBI single from
Brinaya Bailey to score
Andrea Summey and an RBI triple from
Faith Alexander to score
Raleigh Williams.
The Hatters took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning off a three-run home run from Lizzie Shubert.
In the top of the seventh inning, junior
Taylor Cates would tie the game 6-6 with an RBI double down the left field line.
Stetson would walk it off with an RBI single to right field to secure a 7-6 victory over the Owls.
Peyton Elzey (1-7) suffered the loss after 1.0 inning, giving up one run on three hits.
Jamie Tino (3-6) collected the win tossing a complete game, giving up six runs on eight hits.
Game 2 | Kennesaw State 11, Lipscomb 0
After nothing doing for either side through the first frame, the Owls took a 6-0 lead in the top of the second inning thanks to a two-run home run from
Taylor Cates, an RBI single from
Brea Dickey, an RBI walk from
Christen Florence and an RBI single through the left side from
Cheyanne Sales.
KSU added three insurances runs in the top of the third inning after a pair of singles hits from Dickey and Florence to take a 9-0 lead over the Bisons.
Lipscomb looked to respond in the bottom of the fourth inning after Rich singled to right field, but the Owls defense was able to close the door on allowing any runs.
An RBI groundout from
Hannah McGill and an RBI single from
Brinaya Bailey in the top of the fifth inning would seal the deal in an 11-0 decision over the Bisons.
Melanie Bennett (13-9) secured the win after 3.0 innings of work, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out one.
Katie Turner (1-2) suffered the loss after 3.1 innings, giving up eight runs on eight hits while striking out four.
