THE STORYLINE
The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team squashed the Hornets Saturday afternoon as nine Owls found the back of the net, with three recording hat tricks, for a huge 19-7 victory over Delaware State.
MANESS QUOTE
On the win...
"A great team win today. Delaware State came out with fire and got a quick first goal. I think at that point the team got fired up and made some great plays. The players off the bench also created a nice spark to over time grow the lead. Defensively, I thought we challenged on the ride well. Across the board it was a good effort and we are looking forward to carrying this momentum forward."
HOWÂ ITÂ HAPPENEDÂ Â
The Hornets got on the board first to open the game, but the Owls quickly responded as
Marissa Gore netted a free position shot before feeding
Caroline Farley to put KSU on top 2-1. The two squads traded goals as
Camryn Klaus,
Marissa Gore and Farley all found the back of the net to keep the Owls in front 5-3.
The Owls continued to stretch their lead as
Marissa Gore and
Natalie Welch each recorded a goal before Delaware State finally put an end to the 4-0 run to make it 7-4. Unfazed, KSU netted the next three straight goals as Farley earned her first career hat trick followed by goals from
Jaxsyn Schonewille and Klaus to push the Owls' lead to 10-4. KSU added two more goals before the halftime whistle as
Sisely Vongphasouk recorded her first goal of the season and Schonewille added her second of the game to make it 12-5 at the halfway point.
Â
Klaus kept the momentum rolling in the second half, bagging the opening goal of the period for her third of the day. The Owls pushed their lead to 10, 15-5, behind goals from
Marissa Gore and Welch. KSU maintained its 10-point cushion throughout the half, trading blows with DSU as Vongphasouk and
Hannah Barth each logged goals for a 17-7 advantage.
Â
The Owl freshmen came to play in the final minutes as
Molly May and
Jenna Mish each recorded their first career goals to earn the final score of 19-7.
