LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Kennesaw State softball team secured a doubleheader sweep over Liberty on Friday.
Game 1 | Kennesaw State 3, Liberty 2
After four scoreless frames, Liberty took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning thanks to an RBI double to right center field.
The Flames added insurance with an RBI single to left center field in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 2-0 lead.
The Owls took the lead in the top of the seventh inning off a three-run home run from ASUN Player of the Week
Taylor Cates to secure a 3-2 decision over the Flames.
Melanie Bennett (11-8) collected the win after going a complete game, giving up two runs on eight hits while striking out one.
Emily Kirby (6-4) suffered the loss after 6.0 innings, giving up three runs on three hits, while striking out six.
Game 2 | Kennesaw State 5, Liberty 4
Liberty got the ball rolling in the bottom of the second inning with two runs off an RBI single and an RBI double.
Pinch hitter
Brinaya Bailey answered for the Owls with a two-run single in the top of the fourth inning to tie up the game 2-2.
The Flames regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning off an RBI double to right center field.
The Owls reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth inning thanks to a Flames throwing error to score

Liberty's Amber Bishop tied the game up 4-4 with a solo home run to center field.

Lindsey Kyte (3-3) collected the win after 5.0 innings of work, giving up four runs on seven hits while striking out four.
Megan Johnson (2-2) suffered the loss after 2.2 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits.

- Taylor Cates collected her 11th home run and 25th RBI of the season.
- Christen Florence was 3-for-6 at the plate today, collecting her first triple of the season.
