FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Kennesaw State women's tennis team was defeated by FGCU 4-2 in the ASUN Quarterfinals at the FGCU Tennis Complex on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Eagles picked up four singles wins to secure the victory.
 
"Tough battle today," Director of Tennis Matt Emery said. "We did a great job of jumping on them in doubles and then finishing. Taylor put in another stellar performance at No. 1 to get us two points. We had a lot of opportunities on the tensing courts to seize control of the match that we let slip away. On the road, against a good team like FGCU, you have to really go after those opportunities."
 
The Owls clinched the doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead after falling on court one but coming back to secure the point. Ji Youn Lee and Valentina Taddia got the Owls going in doubles with a 6-2 win on court two. Followed by Soomin Kim and Sofia Pinedo on court three when they defeated Alba Retortillo and Fanny Norin 6-2 to secure the doubles point.
 
In singles, the Eagles tied up on court five when Sofia Perez defeated Soomin Kim 6-2, 6-1. Taylor Dean extended the Owls lead 2-1 on court one in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 over Maja Ornberg. FGCU responded with three consecutive wins on courts four, six and three to clinch the match 4-2.
 
"These ladies played their tails off," Emery said. "I could not be prouder of the way they handled the adversity this season has thrown at them."
 
Next Up
The Owls will return to action in August of 2021.
