MANESS QUOTE
On the game...
"I thought we played a great first half, we had ourselves in a competitive game and came out scoring. The second half was flat. We stressed the importance of playing 60 minutes and playing through calls that don't go our way. Ultimately we need to dig deeper and close these games out."
HOWÂ ITÂ HAPPENEDÂ Â
Marissa Gore put the Owls in front early with a goal less than a minute into the game. After the Flames tied it back up,
Caroline Farley responded almost immediately on the ensuing possession converting a pass from
Hannah Barth to keep KSU on top 2-1. Liberty would eventually take the lead at the 16:58 mark behind back-to-back goals. The Flames added one more goal before
Jaxsyn Schonewille snapped the run with a goal to pull KSU within one 4-3.
Liberty recorded another goal before the halftime whistle for a 5-3 lead after a defensive first period.
Julia Weiss kept the Owls in it with seven saves in the first half, but Liberty managed to quiet the KSU attack on the opposite end with seven caused turnovers.
The Flames came out hot to open the second half with two quick goals to extend their lead to 7-3 at the 28:37 mark. The two teams then traded goals as
Siena Gore netted her first of the game before a Liberty goal made it 8-4. After another goal by
Marissa Gore, Liberty extended its lead to 17-5 behind a 9-0 run as KSU was held scoreless for over 23 minutes.
