OPENING DRAW
» The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team is looking to build off its first win of the season as the Owls roll into Nashville Wednesday to take on Vanderbilt. After downing Winthrop on a last-minute goal and a record performance from Siena Gore, the Owls will try to defeat the Commodores for the first time in program history. Vanderbilt is one of three teams KSU has faced every year since KSU's inaugural season in 2013.

» Siena Gore tied one of the few records she has yet to set recording a career-high eight goals and 10 points in KSU's last game at Winthrop. Her eight goals and 10 points tied the KSU single-game record. Gore is currently ranked 26th in the NCAA for total goals and eighth for goals per game. This year Gore became the KSU all-time career leader for total points with 201, surpassing Sydney Farwick (2014-17). She already maintains the KSU all-time record for career goals by more than 40 goals.

» Freshman goalkeeper Julia Weiss earned her first win between the pipes at Winthrop, recording a career-high 12 saves to keep the Eagles' comeback at bay. Weiss currently leads the ASUN and ranks 25th in the nation averaging 9.33 saves per game. She has racked up 28 total saves on the year, holding Coastal Carolina to three goals in the first half recording all eight of her saves in the period. Defensively, the Owls have three players ranked in the league's top-10 for caused turnovers with Marissa Gore and Siena Gore tied for seventh with Roslyn Talbert in 10th with five and four caused turnovers respectively. KSU's 9.7 caused turnovers per game ranks 33rd in the NCAA.

» The Owls have been sharp when on the attack shooting 42 percent on the year with 76.8 percent of those on goal. KSU is one of two teams in the ASUN shooting 40 percent or better, ranked 49th in the NCAA. Three Owls rank in the conference's top-10 for shooting percentage with Siena Gore ranked eighth shooting 63.6 percent on the year followed by Natalie Welch and Julia Dell'Angelo in a tie for ninth shooting 50 percent.

» KSU has converted 13 of its 26 free position attempts this season. The Owls 50 percent free position shooting percentage ranks 21st in the NCAA. Siena Gore has netted 10 of the Owls' 13 free position goals making her the only player in the ASUN with more than five free position goals. Her 3.3 free position goals per game average leads the entire country. Gore's 76 career free position goals is more than double the next closest Owl in program history.

SISTER SISTER
Senior twins Siena and Marissa Gore have either broken or are ranked in the top-10 for nearly every category in the KSU career record book.

Siena Gore has broken the single-season record for points, goals and draw controls twice, becoming the only Owl in history to record over 150 goals and 250 draw controls. She just recently set the KSU all-time career record for points and is one of four players in ASUN history to earn at least 200 career points (201).

She is coming off a record match at Winthrop in which she tied the KSU single-game record for goals (8) and points (10). Siena leads the ASUN with 16 points and is one of four players in the conference to record at least 10 points, having played two less games than the other three. She ranks in the league's top-10 for draw controls (2nd), assists (4th), ground balls (8th), caused turnovers (7th) and shooting percentage (8th).

Siena Gore ranks eighth in the NCAA averaging 4.67 goals per game and 15th for points per game averaging 5.33.

Marissa Gore has been another all-around powerhouse for KSU, ranking fifth all-time for career assists (31), third for draw controls (144) and sixth for caused turnovers (40). She currently ranks ninth for career points with 90 and recently cracked the top-10 for career goals with 59 to rank ninth.

Marissa ranks among the ASUN's top-10 for goals (T-5th), points (6th), draw controls (6th) and caused turnovers (7th) while ranked 11th for ground balls.

BETWEEN THE PIPES
With the graduation of revered goalkeeper Alex Bunn, all eyes have turned to freshmen Julia Weiss and Errin Crowe to step into the cage.

Weiss comes to KSU from South Carroll HS in Sykesville, Md., leading the Cavaliers to their first ever Class 2A State Championship and a 17-1 record in 2019. She was named an all-county selection in 2018 and 2019.

She has been a huge asset in the cage for KSU totaling 28 saves on the year after recording a career-high 12 at Winthrop to earn her first career win. Weiss currently ranks 25th in the NCAA averaging 9.3 saves per game.

She shined in her debut, earning the starting nod in KSU's season-opener to record eight saves to help the Owls maintain a 4-3 lead at halftime against Coastal Carolina. She also logged eight saves against No. 6 Florida.

Fellow freshman Crowe has logged over 40 minutes in the net this year recording five total saves. She helped lead Lassiter HS to three Area 4 6A/7A championships from 2017-19, finishing her prep career with a 56-17 overall record.

The duo have been aided by an Owl defense that is averaging 9.7 caused turnovers per game. If maintained, it would set a new single-season record marking just the second time in program history KSU has averaged over nine caused turnovers per game.

Three Owls, Marissa Gore, Siena Gore and Roslyn Talbert, all rank among the league's top-10 for total caused turnovers.

FREE NINETY NINE
The Owls have made the most of their free position attempts so far this season, converting 13 of their 26 shots. KSU's 50 percent shooting percentage from the arc ranks 21st in the NCAA with its 13 total goals ranked 24th.

KSU's stellar production is due in large part to Siena Gore who has scored 10 goals on 13 free position attempts. She is the only player in the ASUN to record more than five goals from the eight-meter arc, leading the country in both total goals and goals per game (3.33). She is one of three players in the NCAA with at least 10 free position goals.

Marissa Gore has netted two free position goals on the year with sophomore Natalie Welch recording her first career goal off a free position attempt.

UP NEXT
The Owls return to the Nest next Monday (Mar. 15) to open conference play against Stetson at 12 p.m.
