OPENING DRAW
» The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team returns to South Carolina to kick off a two-game road swing against Winthrop Saturday at 1 p.m. The Owls are 2-4 all-time against Winthrop but won the last meeting 13-9 in 2020 with
Siena Gore and then-senior
Abby Squires combining for seven goals.
»
Siena Gore logged her second straight game with a hat trick against No. 6 Florida to bring her season total to six goals. She is one of six players in the league to net at least five goals so far this season with the other five players having played three more games. With her hat trick, Gore has now become the KSU all-time career leader for total points with 191, surpassing
Sydney Farwick (2014-17). She already maintains the KSU all-time record for career goals by nearly 40 goals.
» Despite recording two losses so far this year, freshman goalkeeper
Julia Weiss has stepped up between the pipes for 16 saves this year. Against Coastal Carolina KSU led 4-3 at halftime as Weiss recorded all eight of her saves in the first period. Weiss currently ranks second in the conference for total saves and saves per game. Defensively, the Owls have three players ranked in the league's top-10 for caused turnovers with
Marissa Gore,
Roslyn Talbert and
Rachel Price all tied for ninth with three caused turnovers a piece. KSU's 9.5 caused turnovers per game ranks 37th in the NCAA.
» The Owls have been sharp when given their opportunities with a 70 shots on goal percentage. KSU is one of two teams in the ASUN shooting 70 percent or better. Three Owls rank in the conference's top-10 for shooting percentage with
Siena Gore ranked seventh shooting 54.5 percent on the year followed by
Marissa Gore and
Julia Dell'Angelo in a tie for eighth shooting 50 percent.
» A parliament of Owls recorded career firsts in KSU's last game against No. 6 Florida with sophomore
Natalie Welch and freshman
Julia Dell'Angelo netting their first career goals. Dell'Angelo also logged a career-high two caused turnovers. Sophomore
Mia MacKenzie recorded her first career ground ball, leading the team with three total. In her first game this season, junior
Jaxsyn Schonewille scooped up a career-high four draw controls against the Gators.
SISTER SISTER
Senior twins Siena and
Marissa Gore have either broken or are ranked in the top-10 for nearly every category in the KSU career record book.
Siena Gore has broken the single-season record for points, goals and draw controls twice becoming the only Owl in history to record over 150 goals and 250 draw controls. She just recently set the KSU all-time career record for points with 191, needing just nine more to become the fourth player in ASUN history to reach 200 career points.
With 272 draw controls in her career,
Siena Gore is just the third player in ASUN history to record over 200 career draw controls. She is the current ASUN record holder by more than 40 draw controls and counting. Siena is also one of three players in conference history to score over 150 goals, needing 14 more this season to tie Jacksonville's Danielle Della Rocca (2014-17) for the league record.
Marissa Gore has been another all-around powerhouse for KSU, ranking fifth all-time for career assists (30), third for draw controls (139) and sixth for caused turnovers (38). She currently ranks ninth for career points with 86 and recently cracked the top-10 for career goals after netting three in the Owls' season-opener to bring her career total to 56.
Marissa is the top returning player from last season for ground balls (11) and caused turnovers (7) with both Marissa and Siena being the only two returners to net over 10 goals in 2020.
BETWEEN THE PIPES
With the graduation of revered goalkeeper
Alex Bunn, all eyes have turned to freshmen
Julia Weiss and
Errin Crowe to step into the cage.
Weiss comes to KSU from South Carroll HS in Sykesville, Md., leading the Cavaliers to a its first ever Class 2A State Championship and a 17-1 record in 2019. She was named an all-county selection in 2018 and 2019.
She was huge in her debut, earning the starting nod in KSU's season-opener to record eight saves and help the Owls maintain a 4-3 lead at halftime. She currently ranks second in the ASUN for total saves and saves per game after recording another eight stops against No. 6 Florida.
Fellow freshman Crowe has logged over 40 minutes in the net this year recording five saves. She helped lead Lassiter HS to three Area 4 6A/7A championships from 2017-19, finishing her prep career with a 56-17 overall record.
The duo have been aided by an Owl defense that is averaging 9.5 caused turnovers per game. If maintained, it would set a new single-season record marking just the second time in program history KSU has averaged over nine caused turnovers per game.
Three Owls,
Marissa Gore,
Rachel Price and
Roslyn Talbert, all rank among the league's top-10 for total caused turnovers.
