KSU
OPENING DRAW
» The Kennesaw State women's lacrosse team closes out its home-and-home series with Winthrop Tuesday afternoon, hosting the Eagles at 2 p.m. on Sports Park Field 3. The Owls downed Winthrop in a hotly contested affair earlier this month as a last second goal from
Natalie Welch delivered KSU a 15-14 victory. KSU is coming off a 25-13 drubbing of Wofford this past Friday, outscoring the Terriers 16-4 in the second half thanks to a record performance from
Siena Gore and
Camryn Klaus.
» With a career-high nine goals against Wofford,
Siena Gore broke the KSU single-game record for goals that had previously stood for seven years. Gore is one of the top all-around players in the country at the moment, ranked second in the NCAA for goals per game averaging 5.57. She has netted at least three goals in every game, and five or more in four of the last five games. Gore has recorded 21 free position goals on the year to lead the NCAA for total goals and free position goals per game (3.00). She also ranks fifth in the country for points per game (6.14) and 11th for draw controls per game (7.43), having recorded a career-high 13 in back-to-back games. This year Gore became the first Owl in program history to record over 200 career points while breaking the all-time ASUN record for career goals with 205.
» On the defensive side, the Owls have six players ranked in the league's top-15 for caused turnovers with
Siena Gore ranked second and
Marissa Gore ranked fifth as two of seven players with double-digit caused turnovers.
Carson Pearson and
Julia Weiss are currently in 11th with seven caused turnovers while
Roslyn Talbert and
Rachel Price are tied for 15th with six apiece. As a team, KSU ranks 15th in the NCAA averaging 10.43 caused turnovers per game, one of 17 teams in the country averaging 10 or more caused turnovers. The Owls have logged 10 or more caused turnovers in all but two games. If maintained, KSU's current average would set a new single-season record and mark just the second time in program history the Owls have averaged over nine caused turnovers in a year.
»
Marissa Gore has provided a one-two punch for KSU ranked second in the conference behind her sister Siena with 22 goals, while ranked in the top-10 for points (2nd), assists (4th), draw controls (4th), ground balls (4th) and caused turnovers (5th). She and her sister Siena are the driving force behind KSU's attack as the only two players in the league to net at least 20 goals on the year. The Owls lead the ASUN, and rank 21st in the NCAA, averaging 14.29 goals per game.
» Freshman goalkeeper
Julia Weiss logged double-digit saves for the third time this season, tying her career-high with 12 against Wofford. She leads the ASUN for both total saves (62) and saves per game (8.86). Weiss' 39.5 save percentage ranks second in the ASUN while her 16 ground balls is tied for fourth. Her current saves per game average would rank second in KSU single-season history.
SISTER SISTER
Senior twins Siena and
Marissa Gore have either broken or are ranked in the top-10 for nearly every category in the KSU career record book.
Siena Gore has broken the single-season record for points, goals and draw controls twice, becoming the only Owl in history to record over 150 goals and 250 draw controls. She just recently set the KSU all-time career record for points and is one of four players in ASUN history to earn at least 200 career points ranked second all-time with 228.
She had a record game the last time KSU faced Winthrop in which she tied the KSU single-game record for goals (8) and points (10). Siena just recently broke the single-game record with a career-high nine goals against Wofford. She leads the ASUN with 43 points with her and sister Marissa, who ranks second, being two of six players in the conference to tally over 20 points on the year. She ranks in the league's top-10 for draw controls (1st), caused turnovers (2nd), ground balls (2nd), shooting percentage (2nd), and assists (9th).
Siena Gore ranks second in the NCAA averaging 5.57 goals per game and fifth for points per game averaging 6.14.
Marissa Gore has been another all-around powerhouse for KSU, ranking fifth all-time for career assists (36), third for draw controls (159) and fourth for caused turnovers (47). She recently became just the eighth player in KSU history to record 100 career points after scoring a career-high six goals against Stetson. Marissa ranks seventh for career points (110) and eighth for career goals (74).
In the ASUN, Marissa is currently ranked among the top-10 for goals (2nd), points (2nd), assists (4th), draw controls (4th), caused turnovers (5th) and ground balls (4th).
Both Marissa and Siena have earned ASUN Player of the Week honors this year, with Siena earning her second of the season this past Wednesday.
LOCK DOWN D
From the cage to the restraining line, the Owl defense has shined this season. KSU averages 10.43 caused turnovers per game to rank 15th in the NCAA. Six Owls,
Marissa Gore,
Siena Gore,
Carson Pearson,
Roslyn Talbert,
Julia Weiss and
Rachel Price, all rank among the league's top-15 for total caused turnovers with
Siena Gore ranked 15th in the country averaging 2.14 caused turnovers per game.
If maintained, KSU's 10.43 caused turnovers per game average would set a new single-season record marking just the second time in program history KSU has averaged over nine caused turnovers per game.
In the net, freshman
Julia Weiss has been a huge asset for KSU totaling 62 saves on the year after tying career-high with 12 in KSU's last game against Wofford. Weiss currently leads the ASUN averaging 8.86 saves per game, having logged 10 or more saves in three games.
She shined in her debut, earning the starting nod in KSU's season-opener to record eight saves to help the Owls maintain a 4-3 lead at halftime against Coastal Carolina. She also logged eight saves against No. 6 Florida. Weiss ranks tied for fourth in the conference with 16 ground balls on the year.
Fellow freshman
Errin Crowe has logged over 50 minutes in the net this year recording seven total saves, including a crucial pair in the final minutes of KSU's last match at Gardner-Webb to seal the victory.
FREE NINETY NINE
The Owls have made the most of their free position attempts so far this season, converting 35 of their 68 shots. KSU's 51.5 percent shooting percentage from the arc ranks 17th in the NCAA with its 35 total goals tied for 5th.
KSU's stellar production is due in large part to
Siena Gore who has scored 21 goals on 28 free position attempts. She, along with sister Marissa, are two of three players in the ASUN to record more than five goals from the eight-meter arc, leading the country in both total goals and goals per game (3.00).
Siena Gore has converted her last 11 straight free position attempts.
Marissa Gore has netted seven free position goals on the year with
Camryn Klaus and
Julia Dell'Angelo recording two each followed by
Natalie Welch,
Hannah Barth and
Mia MacKenzie all logging one apiece.
On the flipside, KSU has held opponents to 42 percent from eight meters out, holding teams to 16 goals on 38 free position attempts.
