KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The Kennesaw State softball team dropped its double header against No. 21 Tennessee at the Sherri Parker Lee Stadium on Wednesday.

Game 1 | Tennessee 9, Kennesaw State 1
The Owls got on the board early when
Christen Florence scored on a wild pitch.
UT responded in the bottom of the first with four runs thanks to an RBI single to left field and a three-run home run.

The Volunteers extended their lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a pair of singles.
KSU attempted to come back with a single up the middle from
Lexi Solorzano and a walk from
Taylor Cates. Tennessee was able to close out the inning with a double play.
UT was able to secure a 9-1 victory over the Owls in the bottom of the sixth inning. Callie Turner (6-1) collected the win going 6.0 innings, giving up one run on four hits while striking out four.
Peyton Elzey (0-5) suffered the loss tossing 2.0 innings, giving up four runs on six hits.

Game 2 | Tennessee 4, Kennesaw State 0
The Owls got one runner on in the top of the second inning, but the Volunteer defense was able to close the door on KSU.
After three scoreless frames, the Volunteers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
UT extended their lead 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a solo home run, a double down the left field line and a single to the shortstop.
Ashley Rogers (11-4) secured the win throwing a complete game, giving up no runs on one hit and striking out 12.
Melanie Bennett (8-8) was given the loss over 6.0 innings, giving up four runs on eight hits while striking out four.

Up Next
The Owls will head to Florence, Ala., for a weekend ASUN conference three-game series against North Alabama beginning with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. EST on Saturday, March 27.
