FLORENCE, Ala.- The Kennesaw State softball team's seven home run day led the Owls to a doubleheader sweep over North Alabama on Saturday.
Game 1 | Kennesaw State 3, North Alabama 2
North Alabama started quick scoring with an RBI double to center field in the bottom of the first inning.
After a pair of scoreless frames, the Owls took the lead with back-to-back solo shots from
Christen Florence and
Lexi Solorzano.
Brea Dickey extended the lead to 3-1 with a homer over the left field fence in the top of the fifth inning.
The Lions cut into the Owls lead with a one-run home run in the bottom of the fifth but the KSU defense closed the door with a pair of shutout innings.
Melanie Bennett (9-8) collected the win tossing a complete game, giving up two runs on five hits while striking out five.
Megan Garst (7-5) suffered the loss after 7.0 innings, giving up three runs on eight hits, while striking eight.

KSU got the ball rolling early in the top of the first inning with a one-run single to left center field from
Lexi Solorzano to score
Brea Dickey.
UNA responded with a sacrifice fly to tie the game up 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning.
In the top of the third magic struck again as the Owls recorded back-to-back home runs from Dickey and Solorzano to take the lead for good 3-1.
Meleah Hargett answered for the Lions by cutting into the Owls lead with a one-run single up the middle.
After a pair of scoreless frames junior
Taylor Cates added insurance with a one-run homer over the center field fence in the top of the sixth inning.
A sacrifice fly from
Cheyanne Sales and a two-run home run from Cates sealed the deal in a 7-2 decision over the Lions in the top of the seventh inning.
Lindsey Kyte (2-3) pitched her first complete game of the season, giving up only two runs on two hits while striking out three.
Sidney Revels (4-1) endured the loss after 3.0 innings, giving up three runs on five hits while striking out one.
Notable Stats
- Christen Florence collected her first career home run.
- Taylor Cates picked up three home runs on the day and three RBIs, bringing her season total to nine home runs and 19 RBIs.
- Brea Dickey and Lexi Solorzano finished the day with two home runs each.
- Raleigh Williams recorded a pair of doubles.
