AUBURN, Ala.- The Kennesaw State softball team closed out the War Eagle Battle dropping two games against No. 13 Florida State and No. 22 Auburn on Sunday, March 21 at Jane B. Moore Field.
Game 1: Florida State 3, Kennesaw State 2
FSU got the ball rolling early in the top of the first inning scoring one on a KSU fielding error.
After three scoreless frames, the Seminoles extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth with an RBI SAC bunt and a one-run single to the shortstop.
KSU responded with a one-run single through left side from
Faith Alexander that scored
Katie Greep and
Christen Florence was hit by a pitch with bases loaded that brought home
Hope Jiles to cut into the Seminoles lead 3-2.
The Owls looked to tie the game up in the bottom of the sixth inning with a single up the middle from
Raleigh Williams, but the Seminoles left her stranded. Kathryn Sandercock collected the win tossing 3.2 innings, allowing only two runs on four hits and striking out three.
Melanie Bennett (8-7) suffered the loss on 7.0 innings, giving up three runs on three hits while striking out six.
Game 2: Auburn 4, Kennesaw State 3
After a scoreless frame, the Owls used the bottom of the second to take an early 2-0 lead off a two-run single to left field from
Christen Florence.
Taylor Cates extended the Owls lead by one with a solo shot over the center field fence.
The Tigers responded in the bottom of the third inning scoring three runs thanks to a bunt single, double to center field and a sacrifice fly to tie the game 3-3.
KSU attempted to respond in the top of the fifth inning with two runners on but the Tigers defense closed the door on any runs.
Auburn added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead for good.
Lindsey Kyte (1-2) suffered the loss on 0.1 innings, giving up one run on one hit.
KK Dismukes (3-0) secured the win after 5.1 innings of work, giving up one run on four hits.
Notable Stats
- Taylor Cates recorded a home run against AU, totaling three on the weekend against Auburn.
- Christen Florence collected her 12th RBI of the season.
