KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State softball team closed out the month of February with a 5-1 victory over Miami (OH) on Sunday, Feb. 28 at Bailey Park.
How It Happened
KSU got the ball rolling early in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI fielder's choice that brought
Brea Dickey home.
After three scoreless frames, the Redhawks tied the game 1-1 with a solo home run to right center field from Karlee Juarez in the top of the fifth inning.
KSU responded with an RBI single from
Lexi Solorzano to plate Dickey followed by a three-run homer from
Taylor Cates to take the lead for good 5-1.
Melanie Bennett (4-4) collected the win going all seven innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out six.
Courtney Vierstra (1-4) was given the loss. Vierstra went 4.1 innings, giving up five runs on five hits. While Brianna Pratt went 1.2 innings in relief, giving up no runs and no hits while striking out four.

- Taylor Cates leads for the Owls with four home runs and 11 RBIs.
- Brea Dickey was 2-2 at the plate with a triple to left center field.
- Melanie Bennett pitched her first complete game of the year.
