KSU Blasts Mocs to Close Chattanooga Challenge

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The Kennesaw State softball team flexed its muscles in a 13-2 win over Chattanooga on the final day of the Chattanooga Challenge Sunday.

The Owls took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first after Lexi Solorzano collected a two-run home run down the left field line.

Chattanooga quickly responded in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer of its own from Cameren Swafford to tie the game, 2-2.

KSU regained the lead in the top of the third inning thanks to a fielder's choice and an RBI sacrifice fly ball to right field from Brinaya Bailey.

Cheyanne Sales started the Owls off in the top of the fourth with an RBI triple to right field to plated Raleigh Williams. Faith Alexander shot an RBI single out to left field that brought home Sales to extend the Owls lead, 6-2.

The streak continued in the top of the fourth inning when the Owls scored two more runs thanks to two UTC errors. Bailey shot a two-run double to right center field to score Cates and Solorzano, bringing the score to 10-2. Alexander recorded a three-run triple to right field extending the Owls lead, 13-2.

The Mocs were unable to answer in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to ultimately end the game on a run-rule.

Melanie Bennett (2-3) secured the win after stepping in as relief for Peyton Elzey in the second inning. After 4.0 innings of work, she allowed only two runs on three hits and collected four strikeouts.

Brooke Parrott (0-2) suffered the loss over 3.0 innings, giving up six runs on five hits, collecting six errors and one strikeout.
