THE STORYLINEÂ
Spencer Rodgers earned his first double-double as an Owl Saturday night as the Kennesaw State men's basketball team got off to another strong start leading Lipscomb 31-29 at halftime, but some hot three-point shooting by the Bisons propelled Lipscomb to a 77-63 win in Allen Arena.
ABDUR-RAHIM QUOTES
On KSU's turnovers…
"We're not doing ourselves any favors by turning the ball over 14 times on the road against a veteran team. They scored 16 points off of those turnovers and that was the difference in the ballgame."
HOW IT HAPPENED
The two squads traded buckets to open Saturday night's game as Lipscomb maintained a slim 8-6 lead four minutes in. KSU managed to pull in front behind back-to-back three-pointers from
Spencer Rodgers and
Chris Youngblood to give the Owls a 14-12 lead at the 13:28 mark. KSU held Lipscomb to nearly 10 minutes without a field goal, pushing its lead to 20-14.
The Bisons finally snapped their drought with a layup at the 6:21 mark, opening a 7-0 run to re-take the lead 21-20. Both teams went point-for-point in the final minutes of the half before a pair of free throws from
Terrell Burden and a jumper by Rodgers gave KSU a 31-29 halftime lead.
The Owls started the second half off strong thanks to a dunk from
Alex Peterson and another triple by Youngblood to keep KSU in front 36-34. Lipscomb eventually pulled ahead with a 9-2 swing to lead 43-38 with 15:18 still to play.
KSU kept pace with the Bisons but could not break the five-point barrier as Lipscomb began to heat up shooting over 70 percent from the floor midway through the second half. Lipscomb pushed its lead to double-figures following back-to-back three-pointers from Will Pruitt to make it 58-47. Pruitt was 4-for-4 from three-point range in the second half as Lipscomb went 7-for-14 from beyond the arc in the period.
KSU managed to cut the lead to single-digits with an 8-3 run capped off by a jumper from Peterson to make it 68-59 with just over three minutes left. Lipscomb closed out the game outscoring KSU 9-2 down the stretch before a dunk from Youngblood in the closing seconds earned the final score of 77-63.
