KENNESAW, Ga.- The Kennesaw State softball team opened its 2021 season dropping two games against Virginia Tech on Saturday, Feb. 13 at Bailey Park.

Game 1: Virginia Tech 6, Kennesaw State 0
Â
After a pair of scoreless frames, Virginia Tech opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning thanks to an RBI double from Cana Davis, and Meredith Slaw followed with an RBI single up the middle to give the Hokies a 2-0 lead.

VT played long ball in the fourth inning, scoring three runs on two home runs. Emma Ritter launched a solo shot to left center and Addy Greene followed with a two-run blast three batters later to give the Hokies a 5-0 lead.

Virginia Tech added an insurance run in the fifth inning and went on to a 6-0 season-opening victory. Keely Rochard (1-0) tossed a three-hit shutout, going all 7.0 innings and striking out 11.

Melanie Bennett got the opening day start for the Owls and suffered the loss in 4.0 innings of work, while
Lindsey Kyte was effective in relief, tossing the final 3.0 innings and giving up one run on two hits.

Brea Dickey had two hits in the opener, while
Katie Greep added a base knock of her own.

Game 2: Virginia Tech 6, Kennesaw State 0
Jayme Bailey got the Hokies going early with a double to center field to score Alexa Milius and Cameron Fagan, giving the Hokies a 2-0 lead.
After a pair of scoreless frames, the Hokies plated two more when Kelsey Brown grounded out to shortstop bringing home Emma Ritter and Fagan singled to second base score Mackenzie Lawter.
VT added to its lead in the sixth inning with a single up the middle from Bailey to plate two more and give the Hokies a 6-0 lead.
Ivy Rosenberry (1-0) collected the win pitching all 7.0 innings and allowing no runs on three hits.
Peyton Elzey was given the loss. Elzey went 4.0 innings giving up four runs on five hits. While
Kristen Davis went 3.0 innings in relief giving up two runs on two hits.
