NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kennesaw State women's soccer team gave its all on the pitch of the Lipscomb Soccer Complex, but the Bisons were able to hold on to their 1-0 lead for their third championship in four years.
FINAL SCORE: Kennesaw State - 0 | Lipscomb - 1
KEY PERFORMERS: Dylan Pixton - 9 saves
"It was all fight out there tonight," said head coach Benji Walton. "You've got to tip your cap to Lipscomb, they came to play. We didn't really have a lot of answers for them tonight. That's why the target is on their back every year. I thought we really fought for it and I'm so proud of that, but we just couldn't find the rhythm we like to have in attack."
The matchup was a battle throughout the entirety of the 90 minutes, with the Owls using their physical attributes to fight themselves into a good position.
The Bisons got themselves into good positions to put shots on goal, but Dylan Pixton was pulling out all the stops to keep her team in the game.
The Floridian logged nine saves on the night, a tally that was only bettered by her 11-save performance against Lipscomb last month.
"She really left it all out there. In my opinion, she's the best keeper in the conference. Unfortunately, we didn't give her the shutouts as a team to give her the credit that she deserves in terms of an All-Conference award, but she's lights out. She's calm and cool yet explosive and deserved a better fate tonight for sure. She kept us in it until the end."
Pixton, along with Macie Rainwater and Aila Swinton, was named in the ASUN All-Tournament team.
The lone goal came from a 22nd-minute tap-in, which Lipscomb was able to hold onto until the final whistle.
