JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Kennesaw State women's soccer team remained on top of the ASUN's East division with a goalless draw against North Florida Sunday afternoon in Hodges Stadium.
"We knew North Florida was going to give us a tough game," said head coach Benji Walton. "They took UF to a 0-0. They've won a lot of games and haven't lost many, so we knew it was going to be a battle. I think we had trouble getting control of the ball in the first half like we wanted to and then at halftime I challenged the team to play a little quicker and a little simpler. It seemed like in the second half onward we were more in our rhythm. We just couldn't finish and put them away, but one point on the road against a team like North Florida is huge."
Very little separated the two sides, with Dylan Pixton stealing the show for the Owls. The Floridian tallied six saves on the day, keeping her first clean sheet of the season.
Kennesaw State's best chance came in the dying embers of regulation time, with Becky Contreras' header cleared off the line by an Osprey defender.
The Owls will fight for a chance to end the season as the top Eastern seed and host playoff matchups against the Liberty Flames on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
Walton on final regular-season match against Liberty…
"I expect them to be playing like their hair is on fire. They're going to come out aggressive and they're a team that has had success on our field. We really have to focus and be the best versions of ourselves come Saturday. It's going to have a playoff feel to it."
