KENNESAW, Ga – For the second consecutive week, Kennesaw State football has received Big South award recognition. The No. 13 Owls went on the road and defeated Hampton 34-15 to earn their first Big South conference victory of the season. With the win, KSU has now secured five consecutive conference openers.

Xavier Shepherd registered another record-breaking performance for the Owls and has been named the Big South Offensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive time. Shepherd set a new career high in rushing, as he compiled 179 yards on the ground with three touchdowns against the Pirates. His 179 rushing yards mark the first time the Owls have had a rusher over 170 yards since the 2019 season. Shepherd also went 8-for-11 passing with 109 yards, which marked the first time the Owls have had a 100+ yard rusher and passer in the same game this season.
The sophomore has now totaled nine touchdowns and 54 points on the year, both rank first on the Big South leaderboard. Shepherd and the Owls (4-1) are back in action this Saturday, Oct. 16 as they take on the North Carolina A&T State Aggies at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
