ATLANTA, Ga. – The Kennesaw State women's tennis team came up on the short end of a 5-2 loss to No. 6 Georgia Tech on Friday (Jan. 29) at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex.

Georgia Tech (5-0) won the doubles point and four of the six singles contests to win the match.

"There were a lot of bright spots tonight. It's obviously a tough challenge playing our first match of the year against the No. 6 team in the country, but overall I loved what we brought to the table." Director of Tennis Matt Emery said. "Huge shoutout to Valentine and Ji for picking up two hard-earned singles victories in their first matches as Owls."

In singles, Ji Youn Lee won in straight sets against Ruth Marsh 6-4, 6-3 to secure a  point. The Owls got strong efforts from Valentina Taddia. Playing in the No. 2 spot, Taddia battled with Carol Lee winning by retirement 6-3, 5-5. Paola Cortez, playing in the No. 2 spot, fought hard but came up short against Gia Cohen 6-3, 6-3.

Taddia, Lee, and Soomin Kim made their KSU debuts on Friday evening.

"Our emphasis is on getting better each match and leaving nothing on the table and we are excited to bring that mentality against a very tough Alabama team on the road tomorrow." Emery said.
 
KSU will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala. to face Alabama on Saturday (Jan. 30) at 1 p.m. ET.
