Six Former Owls Named to ASUN 2001-10 All-Decade Team

KENNESAW, Ga. –
Six former members of the Kennesaw State men's track and field team were named to the ASUN Conference 2001-10 All-Decade Team on Friday.
 
The Owls six selections were tied with ETSU and Gardner-Webb for the most entries on the team.
 
These six helped the Owls capture four ASUN Championships from 2006-10.
 
Scott Burley competed at KSU from 2007-2009. In his three seasons he was a four-time gold medalist at the ASUN Championship. He won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the 2007 and 2008 ASUN Outdoor Championships and the mile run at the 2008 and 2009 ASUN Indoor Championships. He is the lone Owl in program history to have won the mile run at the ASUN Indoor Championship.
 
Gianni Catalano ran for KSU from 2008-2011. Catalano collected six gold medals in the 800m. He secured three consecutive gold medals in the 800m at the ASUN Indoor Championships from 2008-10. He is the lone athlete in conference history to have won that event three times. He was victorious in the 800m during the 2008, 2009 and 2011 ASUN Outdoor Championships. He currently owns the KSU indoor school records in the 800m and 1000m.
 
Jerome McKinzie was a jumper at KSU from 2007-11. McKinzie was an eight-time (four indoor, four outdoor) ASUN Conference champion and first team all-conference honoree. He is the only student-athlete in conference history with four wins in the same event at both Indoor and Outdoor Championships. He finished 22nd in the high jump at the 2010 NCAA Outdoor Championship and was inducted into the KSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018.
 
Joshua McNair threw for the Owls from 2007-11. McNair was a six-time ASUN Conference champion. In outdoor track he collected the gold medal in the discus twice and shot put once at the ASUN Championships. Indoors, he won the weight throw once and the shot put twice at the ASUN Championships.
 
Casey Strickland competed at KSU from 2006-10. He was named MVP of the ASUN Outdoor Championship in 2009 after winning the discus and javelin throw.
 
James Verdi was a four-time conference champion at KSU from 2007-2011. Verdi is the lone Owl to win the 400m twice which he accomplished at the 2008 and 2009 ASUN Outdoor Championships. He was also on a pair of gold medal winning relay teams at the ASUN Championships.
 
To be named to the All-Decade Team individuals must have competed for at least two years in the decade as an ASUN student-athlete with exceptions made for NCAA All-Americans. Individuals that obtained one of the following criteria were named to the team: Three First Team All-Conference selections in Single Event (individual only), Five Total First Team All-Conference selections (including relays), multiple Superlative Award winner, NCAA Championship individual participant.
