Top-25 History
Â
KENNESAW, Ga. – While the Kennesaw State football team won't line up against an opponent this fall, the Owls will enter the spring season as a top-10 program according to the STATS FCS preseason top-25 poll released Tuesday morning.
Â
At No. 10 in the country, the Owls find themselves ranked in the top 25 for the 35th straight poll dating back to Oct. 30 of the 2017 season, giving Kennesaw State 1,030 consecutive days in the national rankings.
Â
Since its inception as a program in 2015, 72 national polls have been released with the Owls appearing in exactly 50-percent of the rankings. Of those 72 polls, Kennesaw State has been inside the top-10 43-percent of the time.
Â
In search of its third Big South Conference championship in the last four seasons and its fourth consecutive FCS Playoffs appearance, Kennesaw State is looking to join Coastal Carolina as the only programs in league history to make the playoffs in four consecutive seasons.
Â
To go along with the title as the best start-up program in college football history, KSU is quickly becoming one of the best FCS program in the nation as one of nine teams to make the FCS Playoffs each of the last three years and one of five teams to win a playoff game in each of those seasons. In the past three years, the Owls are third in the country in overall wins with 34 behind North Dakota State and James Madison.
Â
The Owls return seven of 11 starters on the defensive side of the ball that ranked as the No. 3 defense in the nation last year and held opponents to 278.7 yards per game and 18.7 points per contest.
Â
The offense will look to keep on rolling with eight starters returning from a team that led the country in rushing at 342.4 yards per game, while ranking No. 1 in the nation in passing yards per completion.
Â
The Big South Conference postponed the fall season with the intent of playing in the spring. A full schedule will be announced at a later date.
