KENT, OHIO- In a grind-it-out game in which the Owls controlled the ball for 39 minutes, Kennesaw State fell 26-23 in overtime to Kent State.

After deferring the toss, the Kennesaw State defense stood strong on the first possession and forced a Golden Flash punt.

Daniel David led a field-goal drive on the first possession for the Owls and the Kennesaw State found themselves on top 3-0 with 8:15 to play after
Nathan Robertson knocked through a 33-yard field goal.
Â
On the ensuing Kent State possession, the Golden Flashes tied the ball game after a 32-yard field goal. The Owls answered with their second field goal that was set up by a 34-yard reception by
Bronson Rechsteiner. Robertson hit a 21-yard field goal at the 11:58 mark in the second quarter to give the Owls the lead.

The Owls third drive of the day stalled, but was kept alive after recovering a muffed Kent State punt.
Daniel David found
Isaac Foster streaking down the middle of the field for 32 yards on the next play. Following the reception, David found paydirt from two yards out and put the Owls on top, 13-3 midway through the second quarter.

Kent State answered with a 23-yard quarterback scramble to pull within three points with under five minutes in the first half.

The Owls capped off a nine-play 50-yard drive with a 32-yard field goal and took a 16-10 lead at the break.

The Owls had a chance to put up points on the first possession of the second half after recovering a second muffed punt, but
Daniel David threw his first interception of the season and the Golden Flashes took over at their 20-yard line.

Kent State took the 17-16 lead with 9:26 in the third quarter after converting a third-and-sixteen with a 75-yard touchdown pass down the sideline.

Kennesaw State looked like it was going to answer again- and thought it did- but a 43-yard rushing touchdown was called back on a holding penalty.

The KSU defense forced another three-and-out before the KSU offense converted a fourth down opportunity to push the ball into Kent State territory. On the fourth down play, David rolled out to his right and found K.J. Hancock down the right sideline who made a one-of-a-kind grab to keep the drive alive.

The Owls had their second touchdown of the day called back on the drive and couldn't pick up points after a missed field goal with 10:14 to play in the contest.

Kent State took a 20-16 lead at the 7:52 mark, but Kennesaw State answered the call and manufactured a 14-play, 75-yard drive that ended with a 4-yard rushing touchdown from
Daniel David to give the Owls the three-point advantage.

On final drive of the fourth quarter, the Golden Flashes drove the ball 49 yards and made a field goal to force the game into overtime at 23-23.

On its first possession of overtime, the Owls lost control of the football and turned it over, which gave the ball to the Golden Flashes.

Kent State drove home a 43-yard field goal to capture the victory.
