Quick Hits
» The Kennesaw State volleyball team looks to keep its momentum rolling into North Carolina as the Owls take part in the High Point Invitational Friday through Sunday. The four-team tournament features some formidable competition as both JMU and hosts High Point were picked to win their respective conference, the CAA and Big South, with Furman picked third in the SoCon's preseason poll. The tournament also marks the first meeting ever between the Owls, JMU and Furman.

» KSU heads into their second tournament of the season on the heels of a big 3-1 victory over Georgia Tech in Tuesday's home-opener. After narrowly dropping the first set, the Owls went on to win the next three straight, taking a massive 12-2 lead in the fourth set and going on to clinch the win with a 25-15 victory in the final set. The Owls hit an impressive .371 for the match with five players recording double-digit kills.

» Junior Lauren Chastang has been on fire to start the season with three straight double-doubles, falling one kill shy of another double-double in KSU's season-opener. Recording 17 kills and 10 assists against Georgia Tech, Chastang leads the team with 51 total kills while second on the squad with 40 digs. She currently ranks fourth in the ASUN averaging 3.19 kills per set.

» The Owls are one of the top scoring teams in the ASUN at the moment, leading the league with a 13.31 kills per set average. Four Owls have logged at least 35 kills on the year, Lauren Chastang (51), Quin Sutphin (42), Dani Ballou (39) and Emma Schurfranz (38).

» Lexi Broadwater was one assist shy of breaking her career-high against Georgia Tech, recording 57 assists in the four-set match. She is currently one of two players in the ASUN to average at least 11 assists per set (11.06).

She's A Freshman
The Owls' newest additions this season have started off their careers with a bang as freshmen Emma Schurfranz and Shelby Dennis have started three of KSU's first four matches.

Schurfranz has had a major impact on the right side for KSU, hitting .359 on the season. The Louisville, Ky., native has had at least five kills in every match, recording double-figures in two, including a career-high 14 against Georgia Tech. Schurfranz hit a blistering .583 against the Yellow Jackets committing zero errors in the match.

Dennis has come up clutch on the defensive side for the Owls. She is currently third on the team with 35 total digs so far this year. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, she led the team in digs against Georgia Tech with 19.

Killing The Game
The Owls dominated Tuesday night's match against Georgia Tech, out-killing the Yellow Jackets 71-45.

KSU's 71 total kills marked the first time the Owls recorded over 70 kills in a match since facing USC Upstate in October of 2016. That mark was also five kills shy of the program record in a four-set match, eight shy of the overall record.

Five Owls finished the match with double-digit kills led by Lauren Chastang's 17. Sophomore Jasmine Brown logged a career-high 11 kills, her first career double-figure kill match. Dani Ballou had her third straight match in double-figures, falling one kill shy of tying her career-high with 12 kills.

Bringing The Thunder
Lauren Chastang has plagued opposing teams, recording double-digit kills in all but five matches dating back to the start of the 2018 season.

With 51 kills on the year already, she has now cracked KSU's all-time career record list. Midway through her KSU career she has racked up 576 total kills to rank eighth all-time. With 24 more kills she'll become just the eighth player in program history to record over 600 career kills.

Her 417 kills a year ago ranked second on the KSU single-season record list, making her just one of three players ever to log over 400 kills in a season.

Her 51 kills through the first four matches is already more than her total at this point last season as she looks to make an even bigger impact in 2019.

Set Up For Success
The ASUN Preseason Setter of the Year has not disappointed so far this season. Lexi Broadwater is currently one of two players in the ASUN to average over 11 assists per set (11.06).

She is coming off one of the best performances in her career, racking up 57 assists against Georgia Tech, one shy of her career-high. The match marked the 10th time in her career she recorded 50 or more assists.

The Fayetteville, Ga., native currently ranks third all-time on the KSU career record list with 1,619 assists, one of four players in program history to record over 1,500 career assists.

The Film Room
This weekend marks the first-ever meetings with James Madison and Furman and the third with High Point after hosting the Panthers in last year's Owl Invitational.

Led by senior Briley Brind'Amour and freshman Sophia Davis with 28 and 29 kills, respectively, JMU heads into the tournament at 1-2. The Dukes fell to No. 22 Washington State and Iowa in their opening tournament but swept Stony Brook.

Furman comes into the tournament searching for its first win of the season. Outside hitter Nicole Mack leads the way with 35 kills on the year while adding 36 digs.

Hosts High Point look to avenge last year's 3-2 loss to the Owls in Sunday's final match of the tournament. The Panthers are 1-3 on the year, sweeping ASUN foe Lipscomb in their season-opener. HPU is led by freshman Annie Sullivan who has 34 kills on the year, nearly 20 more than the next Panther.

To Be The Best You Have To Beat The Best
Head Coach Keith Schunzel has lined up a non-conference gauntlet for the Owls in 2019 with seven teams who finished among the top-100 in RPI last season, six Power 5 opponents and four teams who earned a 2018 NCAA Tournament berth.

Among those non-conference teams, six were selected to finish in the top-5 of their respective preseason polls with High Point, Samford and James Madison chosen to win their conferences.

Looking Ahead
After this weekend's tournament, KSU returns to the Convocation Center for the Owl Invitational. The Owls host Samford and South Alabama in the two-day tournament which begins Friday night at 7 p.m. against Samford.
