How it Happened: The Owls (9-5, 2-0) found themselves in a hole early as UNF (6-9, 0-1) utilized a 6-1 run to lead 8-5. The two squads traded runs, and the lead, throughout the set with KSU eventually knotting the match at 17-17. UNF took the lead back with yet another 3-0 run, but the Owls closed out the set with authority as a kill from
Jasmine Brown sparked a 6-0 run for KSU capped off by a block from
Emma Schurfranz and
Quin Sutphin to win the set 25-21.
Â
The second set was all KSU as the Owls recorded a .452 hitting percentage in the set, committing only one error. The Owls vaulted out to a 10-4 lead after a 7-1 swing polished off by a kill and an ace from Sutphin. KSU pushed its lead to as high as 10 points, 17-7, following another 4-0 run, cruising to a 25-15 victory thanks to a final kill from Brown.
Â
After earning a 7-3 lead to open the third set, the Owls found themselves in a much closer affair as UNF battled back to take the lead, 11-10, following two 3-0 runs. KSU answered with a 3-0 run of their own, which featured kills from
Lauren Chastang, Brown and an ace by
Karlee Groover, to lead 13-11. The Owls kept UNF at arm's length the rest of the set before a solo block from Schurfranz secured the set victory, 25-21, and the sweep.

Quotes: Head Coach
Keith Schunzel
On his thoughts about the match...
"They came out a little more fiery than we did early in the match, but then once we started to match that we played well. I thought in [sets] two and three we were in control for a lot of it. We were nice and consistent tonight which is a good thing. We had some ups and downs, but not dramatically, and I thought we played a nice solid match."
On Quin Sutphin's stellar play...
"Quin is playing great right now. She is consistently working at the level that she needs to on the block and then getting around behind for the slide and she is putting herself in really good positions by how hard she is working and that is a really cool thing. And our ball handlers are doing a great job of handling the ball to get it up to Lexi [Broadwater] to give Quin all these opportunities."Â
Up Next: The Owls turn around to host Stetson this Sunday for the fifth annual Griffin's Game at 1 p.m. Â Â
