NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Becky Contreras put Kennesaw State ahead with a second half goal, but Lipscomb University answered with a pair of scores in a 2-1 setback Thursday.
"Really gutted as a team right now. It's a tough result to swallow. Despite that though, I'm extremely proud of the entire team. I thought our ladies played as well as I've seen them all year tonight. Bottom line is we have to put more of our chances away and on the opposite end we have to do a better job with loose balls in the box," said Head Coach Benji Walton. "We will learn from this game and now turn our focus to Sunday. We have no time to be disappointed, we have to be resilient, and be ready for a very tough Jacksonville team."
Contreras scored her third goal of the season to tie for the Owls' (5-5-0, 0-1-0 ASUN Conference) team lead. She was assisted by Erin Harris at 68:34 for her team-high fourth of the fall.
However, the Bisons (7-4-0, 1-0-0) answered with Kaitlin Echols delivering the tying goal and Olivia Doak had the deciding score at 82:01.
KSU had its chances with 19 shots and nine on-goal. Goalkeeper Tiffany Sornpao had eight saves to set a new season high.
The Owls continue ASUN Conference play at Jacksonville Sunday, Sept. 29 with a 1 p.m. start.
