KENNESAW, Ga. – Senior Lexi Broadwater and junior Lauren Chastang were chosen to make noise in the ASUN this season as Chastang was named a Preseason All-Conference selection while Broadwater was voted the Preseason Setter of the Year to go along with her all-conference accolades, the league announced Monday.
Last season's ASUN Setter of the year, Broadwater is pegged to continue her dominant form in 2019. The Fayetteville, Ga., native led the league, and ranked 18th in the NCAA, with 1,354 assists to set the KSU single-season record. She became the first Owl in program history to average over 11 assists per set, finishing the year with an 11.32 average.
Broadwater's presence was felt in all facets, recording 77 kills, 189 digs and 45 blocks on the year while simultaneously setting a KSU single-season record with 37 aces.
Chastang, a First Team All- Conference selection a year ago, was the sole unanimous selection to the preseason all-conference squad. She led the Owls with 417 total kills in 2018 which ranked third in the conference. It marked the third time in program history an Owl logged at least 400 kills in a single season, ranking second all-time.Â
Originally from BayMinette, Ala., she ranked second on the team with 285 digs to record 14 double-doubles on the year.
Along with the preseason all-conference team, the ASUN also released its preseason coaches' poll with KSU slated to finish second in the conference. FGCU was selected to finish first earning eight first place votes for 80 total points, followed by the Owls with 66 points and one first place vote. Lipscomb comes in just behind KSU in third with 62 points with Liberty in fourth with 60 points and North Florida and Stetson tied for fifth with 40 points apiece.
