KENNESAW, Ga. – Former Kennesaw State linebacker Anthony Gore has signed a contract to continue his playing career, inking a deal with the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League.
 
As the 2018 Big South Conference Player of the Year, Gore helped Kennesaw State capture its second straight Big South Conference championship last fall in just its fourth year of existence. He is the third former Owl to sign a professional contract this spring, joining Darnell Holland (Saints) and Justin Sumpter (Rams).
 
"Anthony will go down as one of the best defensive players in Kennesaw State history," said head coach Brian Bohannon. "The energy and grit he brought every day was contagious and I know he will carry that with him to Calgary. He deserves this opportunity and we wish him the best in his professional career."
 
Gore holds nearly every major defensive record in school history, including total tackles (275), tackles for loss (42.0) and forced fumbles (5). He is a three-time All-Big South honoree, including being named the league's Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 after finishing with 80 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks and two forced fumbles.
 
He had the game of his career on the biggest stage last fall, racking a Big South Conference record 6.0 tackles for loss against Wofford in the second round of the FCS Playoffs as the Owls held the Terriers to 236 yards of total offense and just 13 points.
 
The Statesboro, Georgia native was one of the biggest hitters in all of FCS and led the Owls to back-to-back appearances in the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs and 19 consecutive weeks ranked in the Top 25.
 
The Calgary Stampeders are the third-oldest franchise in the Canadian Football League, competing in Calgary, Alberta and in the West Division of the CFL. The Stamps are the defending league champions, capturing the Grey Cup for the eighth time in franchise history in 2018.
