Owls Ink Georgia Standout Armani Harris

5/2/2019 9:00:00 AM

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State men's basketball Head Coach Amir Abdur-Rahim wasted little time in adding one of Georgia's own to the Owl family, announcing the signing of Armani Harris to the 2019-20 freshman class.

"I'm really excited about the addition of Armani," exclaimed Abdur-Rahim. "I think when you look at our team, we return a lot of guys, but our staple is going to be our physicality, our toughness and just our overall work ethic. Those are the things he already embodies. I love his motor, I love the foundation of his skill set, I think it can improve no question, but I just love him and who he is, the character he carries himself with. I think from day one he'll be a fan favorite just because of how hard he plays. I'm overly excited about him being the first recruit of our new era in a sense."

Harris heads to KSU from Covington, Ga., after playing his prep career at Newton High School under renowned Head Coach Rick Rasmussen. As a senior, Harris helped lead the Rams to a 22-8 record and a Class AAAAAAA Sweet 16 berth.

A 6-7 power forward, he averaged 19.7 points, 10.2 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game during the 2018-19 season propelling him to First-Team All-Region 8-AAAAAAA and All-State accolades.

As a junior, Armani alongside Kentucky star Ashton Hagans took Newton to the GHSA Region 8-AAAAAAA Championship, as well as a GHSA AAAAAAA Final Four appearance.

"When you can add a guy from your home state who basically embodies everything you want your program to be about, it's like hitting the lottery," continued Abdur-Rahim. "I think what he can do from day one, who he can develop into and who he is from a character standpoint is huge for our program."
