KENNESAW, Ga.- The Kennesaw State baseball team capped off its 2019 season with a 13-10 victory over Jacksonville.
With the win, the Owls finish the season 27-19 and 10-13 in ASUN competition.
The Owls personified their fight song in the season finale, and "brought the fight" after finding themselves down 5-0 in the middle of the third inning. With two runners on base,
Jake Franklin singled to score
Jaylen Smith for KSU's first run of the game.
Terence Norman followed with a base-knock to score
Tyler Simon and cut the lead to 5-2.
After the Dolphins scored two in the fourth, the Owls plated two in the fifth and two in the sixth. Norman picked up another RBI with a single to right field, while
Garrett Hodges plated Franklin.
An inning later, Franklin doubled to right-center field to score Smith and
David Chabut.
Jacksonville scored one in the seventh before the Owls plated four in the bottom of the frame to tie the game.
Nick Colina took advantage of a pinch-hitting opportunity and scored Hodges to begin the barrage. The Dolphins pitching staff struggled to find the zone and walked in a run, before a wild pitch scored two to give the Owls' the lead.
The Dolphins tied up the game in the eighth inning, but experienced pitching woes again and walked in another run.
Tyler Simon singled in the eighth to put the game out of reach by plating Smith and Chabut on a line-drive up the middle.
Brian Exley picked up the win, pitching 1.2 innings while surrendering just two runs.
Monty Horn and
Cooper Mayhall each aided the Owls as both pitched scoreless baseball out of the bullpen.
Franklin led the Owls at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with four RBI.
