JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kennesaw State baseball fell 3-2 in the second game of the series after the Ospreys plated a run to win in the ninth inning.
The Owls battled back after finding themselves down 2-0, but the Ospreys edged Kennesaw State in the ninth inning to win 3-2.
After two scoreless innings from both sides to begin the game, the Ospreys captured the first lead of the ballgame with a two-run home run in the third inning.
Ryan Kennedy started the game for the Owls and pitched well against the Osprey lineup. After giving up the two-run shot, he sat down 12-straight Ospreys.
The Owls struggled at the plate, tallying just two hits through the first six innings.
Kennesaw State found an opportunity in the seventh inning when
Terence Norman singled to left field to put the lead-off batter on.
Justin Russell took advantage of an Osprey error to get aboard during the ensuing at-bat to put two Owls on base. After
Garrett Hodges laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt, the Owls scored their first run of the contest after an Osprey fielding error.
The Owls took advantage of another Osprey miscue to tie the ballgame when the North Florida catcher threw the ball into right field to score Russell.
Brian Exley came on in relief in the seventh inning and did not allow a run, stranding two Ospreys.
With one out in the eighth,
Tyler Simon drew a one-out walk, but was stranded at first to end the frame.
After nothing for the Owls in the top of the ninth, North Florida led off the bottom of the inning with a double. After a stolen base and a fly-out, the Ospreys baserunner tagged up and scored to win 3-2.
Kennedy's tossed 6.0 innings, gave up five hits and surrendered just two earned runs.
Tyler Simon led the Owls on the offensive side of the ball, ending as the sole Owl with multiple hits.
The Owls look to bounce back in game three tomorrow at 1 p.m.
