BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kennesaw State dropped its first game of the three-game set at Samford on Friday (March 8) 6-5.
Terence Norman ended the night 4-for-4, but it was not enough as the Owls came up a run short on the road.
After the Bulldogs plated the first run in the opening frame, the Owls took the lead with a double down the left field line from
Justin Russell to score
Jake Franklin and
Terence Norman.
After a couple of scoreless innings from both squads, Samford scored a run in the fifth inning to tie the game. The Owls didn't allow the game to be knotted for long, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning.
After Franklin reached on a Bulldog error, Norman smoked a double to left field to plate Franklin.
Daniel Seres singled to bring home Norman and the Owls captured a 4-2 lead.
Samford took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning after scoring four runs and ended the frame up 6-4.
The Owls fought until the end, and pulled within one in the eighth inning. With the bases loaded, Norman scored on a fielder's choice play off the bat of
Tyler Tolve. The scoring ended there and the Owls fell by a run.
Brooks Buckler started the game for the Owls and pitched 5.1 innings, striking out four while giving up six earned runs.
The Owls are back on the diamond tomorrow at 1 p.m.
