KENNESAW, Ga. – Former Kennesaw State University quarterback
Chandler Burks has been selected by the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association as the Scholar-Athlete of the Year the organization announced this week.
Â
Burks and South Dakota State University quarterback Taryn Christion were selected out of a field of seven finalists and 47 FCS ADA Academic All-Star Team honorees to receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship.
Â
"First and foremost I want to praise God for I am nothing without him," stated Burks. "I am beyond humbled and grateful for being named a recipient of the FCS ADA Postgraduate Scholarship. My future plans are to obtain my Masters of Business Administration to further my career in the future. I am extremely excited for the near future and this scholarship enables me to accomplish another dream of mine."
Â
The FCS' leader in rushing touchdowns with 29 scores, Burks engineered an offense that ranked second in the FCS in rushing yards per game (352) and fourth in scoring offense (43.5 points per game). His 29 TD's on the ground are an FCS single season record by a quarterback.
Â
As the back-to-back Big South Offensive Player of the Year, Burks goes down as the only player in conference history to also win the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year award in the same season, doing in twice in 2017 and 2018. He led the Owls to back-to-back undefeated Big South Conference championship runs as KSU made consecutive appearances in the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs.
Â
Burks will be formally recognized during the FCS ADA's annual Awards Luncheon, held in conjunction with the NACDA Convention, June 10-12, at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida.
