KENNESAW, Ga. – A trio of home runs and the combined pitching efforts of
Hailey Andrews and
Peyton Elzey led the Kennesaw State softball team to a 9-0, five-inning victory over host Georgia State on Wednesday.
Freshman
Katie Greep, senior
Maddie Roth and sophomore
Lexi Solorzano all hit home runs for the Owls (9-11), who extended their winning streak to four games.
Solorzano, who went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBIs, gave Kennesaw State a 1-0 lead in the first inning and Greep hit a three-run homer in the third to increase the Owls' advantage to 4-0.
KSU broke open the game in the fourth inning as Roth clubbed a three-run home run and Solorzano hit her ASUN Conference-leading seventh home run of the season later in the inning.
Hailey Andrews (5-6) won her third straight decision after working 3 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and striking out six. The Owls' senior held the opponent scoreless in her last three outings and extended her streak with not allowing a run to 19 2/3 innings.
Elzey preserved the win after surrendering one hit and striking out two in 1 1/3 innings of relief.
Kennesaw State returns to action on Friday when it hosts the Bobbie Bailey Memorial Tournament at Bailey Park. The Owls open against Western Kentucky beginning at 2 p.m.
