ATLANTA- Kennesaw State dropped a midweek tilt 9-1 at Georgia Tech today (March 6) inside Russ Chandler Stadium.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a quick start by scoring in the first inning off a two-run homerun by Kyle McCann, his first of two in the contest.
It took until the fifth inning for the Owls to record their first hit, which was a single off of the bat of
Jaylen Smith. Kennesaw State could not take advantage of the base runner, as Smith was caught stealing and Georgia Tech ended the inning with a double play.
After the Yellow Jackets plated three runs in the fifth and the seventh innings, Kennesaw State scored its sole run in the eighth inning.
Terence Norman led off the inning by drawing a walk and advanced to second on a single that
Darius Diaz ripped through the middle of the infield. During the ensuing at-bat,
Daniel Seres loaded the bases with a single to right field.
Tyler Simon followed with a bases-loaded walk for an Owls' run.
Georgia Tech plated its final run of the game in the bottom of the inning and won, 9-1. The Owls collected five hits during the afternoon, with base hits coming from Simon, Smith, Norman, Diaz and Seres.
Jared Rine started the game for the Owls and went 2.0 innings, yielding two earned runs.
Brian Exley pitched 3.0 innings, while
Rhian Mann threw 1.0 inning,
Ryan Wesley saw two outs,
Jared Staples tossed one out and
Deviner McCray pitched the eighth. It was McCray's 2019 season debut.
The Owls travel to Birmingham, Ala., for a three-game set with Samford beginning on Friday (March 8).
