Owls' Late Push Comes Up Short Versus Georgia Tech

KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State fell 10-7 on a chilly night in Kennesaw to Georgia Tech on Tuesday evening inside Stillwell Stadium.

The Owls plated six runs in the last three innings, with three coming in the seventh and three in the ninth.

In the seventh frame, with Willoughby and Simon on base, Garrett Hodges lined a single into right field to collect a pair of RBIs and cut the Yellow Jacket lead to 10-3. During the next at-bat, Jaylen Smith singled to left field to score Hodges and pull the Owls within six runs.

More damage was done in the ninth inning, after Alex Carballo launched a two-run home run over the right field wall to trim the GT lead to just four runs. The home run was Carballo's fourth of the season. With just one out left in the game, Jake Franklin smacked a double down the right field line for his sixth two-bagger of 2019.

During the ensuing at-bat and down to his final strike, Terence Norman singled to right field to plate the Owls' final run of the game.

Georgia Tech took a quick lead in first few innings with one run in the second, two runs in the third and three runs in the fourth frame.

Kennesaw State scored its first run of the contest when Carballo brought home Chabut with an RBI single to right field.

The Yellow Jackets scored a pair of runs in the sixth and the seventh innings on their way to 10 runs.

Jake McLinskey earned his first start of 2019 against the Yellow Jackets, as Brison Finney, Monty Horn, Brendan Bickleman, Cooper Mayhall and Luke Torbert saw action out of the bullpen.

Horn pitched 2.0 innings and led the team with three punchouts.

Both teams will square off tomorrow at Russ Chandler Stadium at 4 p.m.
