DECATUR, Ga. – After scoring five runs through the first three innings, the Owls were held scoreless until the ninth inning and fell 9-7 to Georgia State on Wednesday (March 27) night.
The Owls put the first run on the scoreboard in the first inning after
Garrett Hodges singled up the middle to score
Jake Franklin.
Kennesaw State plated three runs in the second inning to push the lead to four runs. After
Tyler Tolve reached on a hit by pitch,
Darius Diaz doubled to left field to score Tolve from first.
Alex Carballo plated Diaz with a rocket up the middle for the Owls' second run of the frame. KSU capped off its scoring in the second inning by taking advantage of a GSU throwing error which resulted in Carballo touching home plate.
After the Panthers scored a run in the bottom of the second,
Jaylen Smith answered with a single over the shortstop's head to plate Norman and put KSU up 5-1. Through three innings, eight Owls had recorded at least one hit.
Georgia State tied the contest after plating a single run in the fourth and fifth innings and two runs in the sixth frame. The Panthers took the lead after taking advantage of an Owl error and an RBI single. The Panthers plated an additional run after scoring on a passed ball and claimed a 7-5 lead after seven frames.
The Panthers tacked on a pair of runs in the eighth inning to extend the lead to 9-5.
With two outs in the ninth inning,
Jake Franklin launched a home run over the right-field wall, but it was not enough, as KSU fell 9-7.
Josh Coburn started for the Owls and tossed 3.0 innings.

Kennesaw State travels to Lipscomb this weekend for a three game set beginning on Friday. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday, 3 p.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
