KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State fell on Senior Day to Stetson 58-45 in the Owls' final home game of the season.
The Owls got off to a quick 5-0 lead after
Amani Johnson knocked down a wide-open 3-pointer and a midrange jumper. Kennesaw State pushed the lead to eight points (10-2) at the 4:23 mark in the first quarter behind seven points from Johnson and three from
Alexis Poole.
The Hatters tied the game two minutes later following an 8-0 run. Kennesaw State stifled the Hatter's run and took a 16-10 lead heading into the second quarter.
Stetson forced a Kennesaw State timeout with 5:59 to play in the second quarter after taking the lead, 22-16. The Hatters drained back-to-back 3-pointers to aid the second quarter comeback. Johnson found
Kamiyah Street just under four minutes in the first half for a corner 3-pointer that the sophomore knocked down to cut the lead to 24-19.
The Owls captured the lead, 25-24, after back-to-back buckets from Poole and a fast break layup from Johnson. Three late 3-pointers and an 11-0 run helped Stetson to a 35-27 halftime lead.
The Hatters opened the half on a 5-0 run and held a 42-27 lead midway through the third quarter. Street ended the run with a nifty move that turned into a layup at the 4:22 mark and cut the lead to 44-29. Johnson netted a 3-pointer with 2:01 in the quarter to trim the Hatter lead to 45-32.
With 5:11 in the final quarter, Gianolla made a strong move in the paint and scored to shrink Stetson's lead to single digits, 47-38. It was the closest the Owls got to the Hatters in the final minutes and Kennesaw State fell, 58-45.
