Owls Drop Heartbreaker In Overtime To Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Kennesaw State was edged in its final regular season game to Lipscomb 72-69 in overtime.

The Owls made an immaculate comeback on the Bisons after finding themselves down by 17 in the second half. With three minutes to go in the third period, the Bisons hit a pair of free throws to take the 52-35.

On the next possession, Amani Johnson netted a 3-pointer to pull the Owls within 14, 52-38.

Down by 10 at the beginning of the final frame, Kamiyah Street trading buckets with Lipscomb to trim the lead to just eight points. That is when the Owls made a 7-0 run that was highlighted by baskets from Street and Alexis Poole, who recorded her 12th double-double of the season.

Behind by three points with 1:36 to go in regulation, Street made a mid-range jumper to cut the lead to just a point. Johnson got fouled with six seconds to go in the fourth quarter, down by one point, and drained a free throw to tie the game and send it into overtime.

Street opened the extra period with back-to-back jumpers to put the Owls ahead 64-60, but Lipscomb responded with a 6-1 run that gave the Bisons a one-point advantage. After trading baskets in the final 30 seconds, Lipscomb made a 3-pointer as time expired to win the game, 72-69.

Poole's performance was impressive, as she ended with 22 points and 14 rebounds, while Street finished with 29 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Street shot the ball 27 times in the contest, which tied the KSU Division I record, set by Street earlier in the season.

Street and Poole were the Owls' only double digit scorers, but Johnson contributed as well, recording six points, six assists and five rebounds.

Kennesaw State returns to action on Friday at Stetson (7 p.m.) for the first round of the ASUN Championship. The Owls will be featured as the No. 7 seed while Stetson earned the No. 2 seed.
