KENNESAW, Ga. – Senior Hailey Andrews turned in a stellar performance in the circle to help the Kennesaw State softball team gain a split of its doubleheader with Hofstra during the opening day of the I-75 Challenge Friday at Bailey Park.

Andrews (3-6) tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout to lead the Owls (6-11) to a 2-0 victory after KSU dropped the opener, 10-3.

Junior Jade Lee led the offense as she went 4-for-7 with an RBI. Senior Maddie Roth and Katie Greep had clutch run-scoring hits in game two.

Game 1
A three-run third inning by Hofstra (2-8) broke a 1-1 tie, and the Pride went to add two runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to break the game open. Lee had two hits in the contest and sophomore Sarah Womack came off the bench to produce a pinch-hit RBI double.

Game 2
The Owls accounted for all the runs they would need in the bottom of the first inning, scoring twice on RBI singles by Roth and Greep. Andrews made it stand up as she worked seven innings, allowed four hits, did not walk a batter and struck out eight.

Homecoming
Alpharetta, Ga., native and current Hofstra center fielder Lydia Witkowski was given the ultimate surprise before Friday afternoon's tournament opener as her brother returned early from deployment overseas to reunite with Lydia and her parents inside the pitcher's circle at Bailey Park.

First Lieutenant Charles C. Witkowski, who is stationed at Fort Campbell just finished an 8-month deployment to Afghanistan where he works as a UH-60 Mike Blackhawk pilot for the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade.

Prior to the first pitch, Charles Witkowski surprised his sister, Hofstra outfielder Lydia Witkowski, and his parents John and Beth at the pitcher's circle.

Lieutenant Witkowski's wife Michelle is a KSU Alum and are the parents of an 8-month old daughter, Addie.
