JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Kennesaw State (5-16, 1-7) fell 69-53 to Jacksonville (12-11, 5-5) on Tuesday (Feb. 5) inside Swisher Gymnasium.
The Owls started quick and claimed an 8-6 lead after
Breanna Hoover knocked down a corner 3-pointer with just over eight minutes in the first quarter. The Owls shot 52 percent in the first quarter but found themselves down 17-14 at the end of the first in part to four Dolphin 3-pointers.
Kennesaw State was forced to call a timeout at 7:58 in the second frame after the Dolphins pushed their lead to 24-16. Jacksonville held a 30-18 lead, but two baskets from
Alexis Poole and Carlotta cut the lead to eight. The Owls took another timeout with 3:04 after Jacksonville held a 34-20 advantage. The Owls were outscored 24-10 in the second frame and were down 41-24 at the half.
Gianolla netted her 14
th point after a layup with 5:46 in the third frame that made it 46-30 Dolphins. At the end of the frame,
Amani Johnson led the Owls in rebounds, with five, and assists, with four. The Dolphins held a 56-36 lead with just the fourth quarter remaining.
The Owls rattled off a 5-0 run to begin the fourth quarter, which consisted of a 3-pointer from Hoover and two Street free throws. Kennesaw State shrank the Jacksonville lead down to 12 points after Poole basket at the 6:36 mark in the final frame.
The Owls outscored the Dolphins 16-12 in the fourth quarter, but the Owls comeback fell short, 68-53.
