LYNCHBURG, Va.- Kamiyah Street turned in an all-around performance, but Kennesaw State fell 68-55 to Liberty on Tuesday (Feb. 26) evening.
The sophomore set a career-high with 13 rebounds and was just four assists away from a triple-double.
Out of the gate, the Owls' offense was balanced, as Street,
Alexis Poole,
Carlotta Gianolla and
Breanna Hoover all made a field goal in the first four minutes of the contest to give Kennesaw State 9-2 lead. The Lady Flames went on an ensuing 10-0 run to take the lead at 12-9 at the 2:25 mark in the opening quarter. Kennesaw State's offense went cold and did not make a field goal in the final 6:36 in the quarter and ended the frame down 16-10.
Three minutes into the second frame, Street and Hoover connected on back-to-back possessions to bring the Owls to within two, at 19-17. The Owls pulled to within one point with just over a minute in the half after Street took the ball coast-to-coast for a layup to make it 23-22. The Flames made a jumper under 10 seconds to go in the half to push the lead to 26-22.
Street collected her second double-double of the season as she pulled down her tenth rebound midway through the third quarter. The Liberty lead expanded to 10 points (41-31) with 2:43 remaining in the third quarter but Street found Gianolla for a layup with 58 seconds in the quarter to cut the lead down to six. Liberty answered, and took a 43-35 lead heading into the final quarter.
Lexi Mann and Gianolla opened up the fourth quarter with mid-range jumpers, but Liberty continued to hold a double-digit lead two minutes into the fourth quarter.
Kate Head knocked down a jumper that shrank the Liberty lead to six (49-43) with 6:44 in the fourth quarter for her third field goal of the season. Liberty took its largest lead of the game after a 6-0 run midway through the fourth quarter after the Lady Flames went up 55-44. The Owls could not complete the comeback and were edged 68-55.
