FORT MYERS, Fla.- The Owls suffered their first loss in three games at the hands of Florida Gulf Coast, 79-48, on Saturday (Feb. 23) afternoon.
The Owls fell behind quickly in the Saturday matinée as Florida Gulf Coast took an eight-point lead just three minutes into the contest. Four field goals were the Owls only points in the first quarter and the Eagles claimed a 28-8 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Florida Gulf Coast pushed the lead to 31 points (41-10) at the 7:13 mark in the second quarter before the Owls went on a 7-0 run to close the gap to 41-17.
Alexis Poole turned in an impressive half as the sophomore had 11 points and eight rebounds through the first two periods.
A 12-2 run in the third quarter help FGCU hold a 60-23 lead at the third quarter media timeout with 4:56 in the frame remaining. The Owls pieced together a 6-0 run at the end of the quarter and were behind 65-31 with just the fourth quarter to go.
Another 6-0 run in the fourth quarter closed the Eagle advantage to 73-43, and after a FGCU bucket,
Kamiyah Street drained a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 29 points, 75-46.
Poole finished with her 11
th double-double of the season in the 79-48 defeat.
