HOUSTON – The Kennesaw State softball team had mixed results during day two of the Houston Challenge, defeating Incarnate Word and falling to Houston on Saturday.

Hannah Thomason and
Abby Deane highlighted a 5-2 victory over Incarnate Word before the Owls (5-8) suffered a tough 2-1 eight-inning loss to Houston.

Thomason went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, and Deane allowed one earned run in a complete-game effort to lead Kennesaw State.

The Owls rallied late, overcoming a 2-1 deficit, scoring two runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-2 lead and extended their advantage with a pair of insurance runs in the sixth. The win marked KSU's fourth straight victory.

Trailing 2-1 heading into the bottom of the fifth, Thomason, who reached base in all four of her plate appearances, reached on an error and scored on a double by
Maddie Roth that tied the score. Roth scored the go-ahead run on a single by
Raleigh Williams.

Kennesaw State added to its lead in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Thomason, and
Olivia Gocke, who reached on an infield single, came around to score on an RBI single by
Jade Lee.

Deane (3-2) recorded her second complete game of the season after pitching seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned), four hits, walking four and striking out four.

Lexi Solorzano accounted for the Owls' lone run, homering in the fourth inning to give KSU a 1-0 lead. Houston tied the score with a run in the bottom of the sixth and plated the winning run with a one-single in the eighth.

The loss overshadowed a solid pitching effort by
Hailey Andrews (1-5), who worked 7 1/3 innings, allowed four hits, two unearned runs, walked one and struck out six.

Kennesaw State closes out the weekend with a rematch against Houston Sunday at 1 p.m. (ET).
