GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Kennesaw State men's basketball team battled with UNC Greensboro Wednesday night, but couldn't recover from a pair of late cold stretches, falling to the Spartans 72-54.

How it Happened: C.J. Washington got the Owls (0-7) started on the right foot, draining a three-pointer to give KSU a 3-2 lead out of the gates. UNCG (7-2) then pulled ahead with a 7-0 run, finally halted by a trey from
Terrell Burden. The freshman scored the next six straight points for the Owls to tie the game up at 9-9 with 13:01 still to play.

Danny Lewis put the Owls back in front with an and-one followed by a layup from
Armani Harris to make it 14-11. The two squads traded points in a defensive first half before two straight three-pointers put the Spartans on top 23-18 with just over six minutes to go. A thunderous dunk from
Ugo Obineke followed by a trey from
Tyler Hooker, his first bucket of the night, got the Owls back within one, 25-24, but UNCG answered with a three of its own, closing out the half on a 9-4 swing to lead 34-28.

The two squads continued to battle it out in the second half, trading points as a free throw from
Bryson Lockley cut UNCG's lead to four, 38-34, at the 15:55 mark. The Spartans eventually pushed their lead to double-digits as KSU went cold from the floor. UNCG utilized the nearly five-and-a-half-minute drought to go on an 8-0 run to lead 46-34 with 10:30 still to play. Â

Burden finally ended the drought with four straight points to spark a 7-3 swing as KSU cut the lead to single-digits, 49-41. The Owls would not get any closer as UNCG responded with a three-pointer to open a 10-2 run of their own, pushing its lead to 61-45 with just over five minutes to go. KSU made only one bucket during the six-minute stretch, but went 7-of-8 from the free throw line. The Owls were 14-of-21 at the charity stripe in the second half, 21-for-34 for the game, but only 6-of-20 from the floor as UNCG outscored KSU 38-26 in the second half to record the win.
