KENNESAW, Ga.- The Owls edged UNCW 58-56 on Saturday (Nov. 23) to improve to 4-1 for the first time in the program's Division I era.

"I am so excited for our ladies and the KSU women's basketball program. We believed in eachother, the scout and all the adjustments," head coach
Agnus Berenato said. "It was a great accomplishment to come to UNCW and win on their court."

Alexis Poole carried the Owls throughout the contest and ended as the game's leading scorer with 27 points. She also led both squads with 11 rebounds and recorded her third double-double of the season.

"
Alexis Poole was outstanding today and out the team on her back for the victory. She was able to handle double and triple teams, keep her composure and get the shot off," Berenato said. "She was calm and confident at the free-throw line and had two blocks late in the game that were huge.

Amani Johnson netted nine points and played all 40 minutes of the contest.

The Owls were incredibly impressive on the free-throw line, as they finished 19-for-22 (86.4 percent). The free-throw line became a factor late, as the Owls knocked down critical free throws to secure the two-point victory. Poole led the team from the line, sinking 11-of-13 tries. Kennesaw State led for the majority of the game (34:19) and capitalized on Seahawk turnovers, ending with 13 points off of UNCW mishaps.

"Our team showed tremendous grit, courage and fight in this road victory," said Berenato. "We defeated a very scrappy and strong team that has not lost at home".

The Owls look to continue to win on the road on Monday (Nov. 25) against Campbell.
