BUIES CREEK, N.C.- Kennesaw State's four-game winning streak came to an end Monday at Campbell as the Owls fell 63-51.
"Tonight's game was played with great heart and grit. We came out with a great game plan and executed it well in the first half. Campbell had players step up and score inside-out," said head coach
Agnus Berenato.
Both defenses were impressive to begin the game, but Kennesaw State's proved to be stronger in the first frame by allowing just nine points in the quarter. KSU scored 15 and held a six-point lead heading into the second frame.
Â
Amani Johnson was remarkable in the first half, as she scored a game-high 10 points and grabbed six rebounds through the first 20 minutes of play. The Kennesaw State defense was inspiring in the second quarter as well, as the Owls held the Camel offense to just 18.2 percent. KSU held a 26-20 lead going into the break.
"Amani had a great game with 16 points and nine rebounds while she was closely guarded the entire game. Carlotta had 14 points and seven rebounds but it was not enough to stop Campbell. Our turnovers hurt us and Campbell's bench did an outstanding job," said Berenato.
Â
The Camels' offense came alive in the third quarter and Campbell outscored the Owls 23-15 in the period. Campbell's shooting improved tremendously in the quarter, as the Camels shot over 60 percent in the third quarter. The Owls trailed 43-41 heading into fourth quarter.
Â
Kennesaw State fell behind by nine points in the fourth quarter but showed no quit- pulling within five points within two minutes to go in the half. Two Campbell free-throws extended the lead to seven points, and the Owls couldn't rally and fell 63-51.
