FT. MYERS, Fla. – Kennesaw State University wasted little time to build an early lead in a 3-1 victory over UNF Friday to begin action in the ASUN Conference tournament. The Owls advanced to the semifinal round for the third time under Head Coach Benji Walton.
"I'm so proud of our ladies. That was a very tough, hard fought game by both teams. My hats off to North Florida they have an incredible group. I was thrilled with the energy our team came with tonight. They played smart and stayed within themselves. We got a huge boost from Morgan Harrison'sgoal tonight. That may be her second career goal and it couldn't have come at a better time," said Walton. "We will enjoy this tonight, but we will have to quickly turn our attention to a tough FGCU."
The Owls (11-7-0) gained the first advantage when speedy Erin Harris zipped past the Osprey defense and to the right of goalie Rhiannon Conelly in the seventh minute.
At 25:37, ASUN Freshman of the Year Becky Contreras passed to senior Morgan Harrison, who lifted a long shot into the top left corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead.
Meanwhile, keeper Tiffany Sornpao worked hard in front of the net. She saved three shots in the first half, and totaled seven in the second half.
Isabella Contreras, a First Team All-ASUN member, sealed the win with a goal at 82:12 on an assist from Kameron Downs.
The Ospreys' (11-6-2) were led by Thais Reiss' goal at 74:01.
The Owls remain in Ft. Myers to play host and top seed FGCU in the semifinal round Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.
