KSU Opens Postseason Play Against UNF

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Kennesaw State women's soccer team makes its way into the ASUN Conference quarterfinals this weekend. The Owls travel to play the University of North Florida Friday, Nov. 1 at 5 p.m. KSU is the No. 5 ASUN women's soccer team with a 5-3 conference, 10-7 overall season. North Florida is No. 4 in the ASUN standings with a 5-2-1, 11-5-2 season.

History
The Owls and Ospreys previously competed against each other in the quarterfinals in 2017. In the double overtime game, the score was a 0-0 draw. A penalty kick shootout gave the Owls the win, 4-3. The teams played each other in the ASUN quarterfinals in 2012 with the Ospreys taking a 3-1 win. Overall, the Owls have a 13-6-2 record against the Ospreys since 2002. In the Oct. 3, 2019 game, the Ospreys took the 1-0 win at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

In 2014, the Owls went against FGCU in the ASUN finals but lost, 3-1. This will be the Owls 13th time in the ASUN Championship and the first time as the No. 5 seed.

  • KSU enters the championship with seven players having multiple goals and 16 student-athletes recording at least one point.
  • Becky Contreras ranks fourth in conference with 59 shots and 31 shots on goal.
  • Kelsey Hahn led the Owl defense to seven shutouts this season while Erin Harris led the team in points (12) with three goals and six assists.
  • Harris is tied for the No. 1 ranking in total assists.

Since Coach Benji Walton arrived in 2016, the team has been in the ASUN tournament each year and advanced to the semifinals in 2016 and 2017. Walton has led the Owls to a 2-2-1 record against the Ospreys since 2016. He joins Nolan Alexander for a fun look at who he is off the pitch.

Next Up
The team who wins the quarterfinals will advance to the semifinals to play FGCU Sunday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. The ASUN finals will be Nov. 9 at the highest remaining seed.
